The research into the use of transdermal fentanyl, published in 2005 under the title of ‘Physicians knowledge of Transdermal Fentanyl’ (References), raised a number of concerns.
We have tried to address these concerns on this website and to clarify the use of Durogesic DTrans in a number of clinical situations. This information is illustrated by case studies which we hope you will find useful.
In addition to this we have included a basic primer about Durogesic DTrans and information that you may wish to give to any patients requiring this medication.
We have also included the original questionnaire used in the research and a summary of the most striking results. A quiz based on the questionnaire is included and we hope you will use it to check your own knowledge of Durogesic DTrans after having used this website.
'Facts about Fentanyl' (1.0) was launched in June 2004. This version (2.0) was released in November 2006 and includes a number of important changes. Some of these changes have been made in response to comments from users and others concerning the introduction of a new fentanyl patch delivery system.
The Durogesic DTrans Matrix Transdermal Patch has replaced the Durogesic Transdermal Reservoir Patch. Although the term Durogesic DTrans has been used throughout this version much of the information is equally applicable to situations where a reservoir patch is being used as only the delivery system has been changed, the bioavailability remaining the same.
Care and due regard to issues of professional accountability should be taken if applying the information within 'Facts about Fentanyl' to any similar generic fentanyl patches.
